BSA Troop 248 Holds Summer Campout at FGSA

Troop 248 held their end of summer campout at FGSA club the weekend of September 28th.  The scouts were given a brief safety lesson and then headed to the range for some 22 pistol and rifle shooting.  In addition, the troop completed a conservation project which consisted of seeding and installing erosion matting on our bare berms on the rifle range.  We would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped make this event a success.  We look forward to having the troop back for more target practice to get them prepared for their shooting merit badge.

Eagle Scout Project Funded

J. Scarsellone has been awarded funding for his Eagle Scout project. The Project is a community bulletin board. The project will be completed for the Forest Grove Sportsmen Club. The Sportsmen Club and Montour trail will each have their own separate boards to post information. The board will be covered with a roof to help keep the boards more protected from the elements. This project is needed for the Sportsmen Club because the Club needs a new way to post information to the community. The donation from the foundation will go toward the lumber, roofing, cork boards, osb boards, screws nails, cement, wood stain, landscaping tarp and gravel rock. The project will be worked on throughout the winter and will be installed in late winter. The project should last a lifetime.

First Annual “Women in Arms” Event

On June 17, 2017, The Forest Grove Sportsmens Foundation sponsored the First Annual “Women in Arms” event at the Forest Grove Sportsmens Club in Coraopolis, PA. During this firearms safety and training event, the women learned about black powder, pistol range, and rifle range shooting, as well as archery. They also participated in simulated firearms training, and learned about topics like situational awareness and domestic violence prevention.

The women were treated to a wonderful food buffet, and there were lots of great door prizes, including the Grand Prize: A (type?) gun built by Tim Hartzell.

Sponsors of the event included Simtec Simulated Firearms Training Services, Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR), whose mission is to respond, educate, and advocate to end sexual violence, and Michael Moore from U.S. LawShield Firearms Program.
